ECTS Information Guide
What is ECTS and NQF-HETR INFORMATION GUIDE?
European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is a credit system for the evaluation of higher education based on student workload. It is a value that represents all the studies (theoretical courses, applications, seminars, independent studies, examinations, assignments, etc.) that a student needs to complete in order to be successful in a course.
ECTS is one of the most important fields of study in the application phase of Bologna Process in Turkey. In recent years, many universities in Turkey intensified their studies for adjusting their credit and grading systems to ECTS principles.
National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education in Turkey (NQF-HETR)
Participating countries to Bologna Process commit to develop “the national qualifications for higher education” until 2010 in order to increase transparency, recognition, and mobility in their higher education systems intended for the Lisbon Strategy goals, devised in 2000 by European Union (EU), and Bologna Process goals, which Turkey was involved in 200. National Qualifications Framework is a system that is recognized by national and international partners. This system clarifies the objectives and outcomes of qualifications, and provides compatibility between qualifications in the entire system.
Izmir University of Economics has prepared this specially designed ECTS Information Guide in order to provide detailed information about its academic programs, which have been formed in tune with Bologna Process, and its education approach and goals. The guide explains step by step the ECTS credits of courses, student workloads, evaluation process, and all components in regard to all these.
All of the information provided in the ECTS and NQF-HETR Information Guide is an information package that integrates the National Qualifications defined by Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK) and Bologna Process implementations. The beneficiaries of this guide will not only be able to access academic programs being offered, but also general information about student life and extracurricular activities both in Izmir and at IUE.
