Academic Personnel Processes Go Digital: ABS
İzmir University of Economics (IUE) has taken an important step toward digital transformation in academic personnel management by launching the Academic Application System (ABS). Developed by the IUE Directorate of Management Information Systems and accessible at abs.ieu.edu.tr, the web-based platform enables faculty members, as well as research and teaching assistants, to manage their contract renewal and initial appointment applications entirely online from start to finish.
Academic personnel processes, which have traditionally been followed through different channels and largely manually over the years, are now consolidated on a single platform with ABS. All stages, from application and evaluation to internal approvals and final decisions, are carried out online. This creates a faster, more transparent, and traceable workflow for both academic applicants and internal stakeholders.

Officials from the Directorate of Management Information Systems stated that ABS was developed specifically to meet the needs of the university and noted: “Academic personnel processes are among the most critical and intensive workflows at our university. By transferring all contract renewal and initial appointment applications to the software, we have fully digitized the process from end to end. Application, evaluation, and approval steps can now be managed through a single system within a secure and standardized framework.”

ABS is not only designed to simplify the application process but also represents an important step toward greater institutional efficiency and sustainability. Keeping all process records in a digital environment provides quick access to information from previous periods, as well as enhanced traceability, auditing, and reporting capabilities. Developed as part of IUE’s digital transformation vision, the platform aims to establish a more modern, data-driven, and sustainable model for academic personnel management.
